This site was created due to the publisher’s intention to share available information about partially hydrogenated oil(trans fats) with the following significant historical points:
• In 1920 – Hydrogenated fat such as Crisco and Spry, sold in England, began to replace lard in the baking of bread, pies, cookies, and cakes.
• 1975 – A group of scientists suspected that eating partially hydrogenated fats had a connection with death from coronary heart disease.
• 1994 – It was estimated that trans fats caused 30,000 deaths annually in the U.S. from heart disease.
• 2006 – It became law in the U.S. that the content of trans-fats has to be specifically listed on food labels. December of the same year New York City’s Board of Health banned many trans-fats from the city’s restaurants, prompting similar moves in Philadelphia, Montgomery County in Maryland, and the Boston suburb of Brooklyn… read more)
• July 2008 – California has become the first state in the U.S. to ban artery-clogging trans fats from restaurants.
How about in your country ? Is hydrogenated oil a part of the restaurants menu; in fast food chains wherein your favorite hamburger, pizzas, french fries, fried chickens are being served ? How about your groceries, doesn’t any of them has hydrogenated oil ? Is it in your child’s favorite cookies, crackers, chocolates and other snacks ?….
